If you ask Pamela McFadden how she feels about being a part of HumanKind’s Therapeutic Foster Care program (TFC), she’ll tell you she’s learned a lot and gained a family—but she hasn’t always felt that way.
HumanKind’s Child Care Resource Center is the only program in Central Virginia that offers the Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing class – an intensive, 120-hour class that gives early childhood educators the knowledge they need to complete the CDA exam. A CDA credential gives educators the qualifications they need to become directors and leaders in the child care community.
It is an internationally recognized, entry-level credential sponsored by the Council for Professional Recognition located in Washington, D.C. (www.cdacouncil.org)
The CDA class is open to anyone who demonstrates the ability to meet physical, social, emotional self-help, and cognitive needs of children in their care, and can work effectively with family members and other adults to nurture children’s development. Participants over age 18 must have completed high school or received a GED.
For the 2017-2018 course year, there are two CDA class options offered at different locations: Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) and in Campbell County at the Timbrook Library.
The cost for this course is $500, which can be paid over the course of 4 or 9 months. $90 is due at the time of registration. Please see our payment plan options. The class is limited to 30 students.
